2. Design Direction

Each sprint focussed on distinct areas of the SSE digital service, each with different goals, and, therefore, a mix of design outcomes.

Sprint one and two

Topic: Submitting meter readings

As we focussed on a new area of the website, we used the latest brand guidelines made available to us, June 2020. Taking the colours, fonts and assets to create a new look that could potentially be rolled out in the future.

The overall goal here was to create a friendly easy-to-use interface for business customers. As there is a lot of data presented on each screen, consideration was taken to get the typography, spacing and hierarchy right.

Sprint three

Topic: Making a payment by card

As this sprint was focussing on something that could be rolled out quite quickly and could potentially be implemented on the current website (Jan 2021), we decided to take a cue from the current styles so it wouldn’t feel too jarring. Some small tweaks were made to type sizes and form styles to help enhance the brand, and for accessibility, without taking it too far.

The things to note here would be the use of Museo Sans Rounded, rather than Museo Sans used in the new brand guide June 2020, as well as the use of the older colour palette.

Sprint four

Topic: Sign a contract

Again as this sprint was looking into the future we looked at the newest brand guidelines we had available, June 2020. As we were creating some email templates we decided to look at introducing the line illustrations from the brand guide, as well as the curved breaks.

We used the newest font selection, Museo Sans and the newest colour palette.

We also looked at redesigning the SSE contract to make it easier to read and scan for new customers.
